Llanelwedd Church
(c) Phil Jones
Dedication: St. Matthew

Built on a small hillock, alongside the river Wye, not far from the town of Builth. The tower is probably 14th century but with part rebuilt in Victorian times. The main church was extensively reconstructed in 1877. The origins are probably medieval, and there is said to have been an earlier church just to the north at Cae Henllan. A three-bay arcade on the north side. The beautiful carvings of the angels on the screen plus choir stalls, altar and pulpit were by two local ladies.

Located alongside the main A483, the trees around the Church screen it for most of the year, part of the national cycle route No. 8 runs between the Church and the river and provides a very pleasant walk in the spring and summer.
